What else you have learned in addition to your academic studies in the US?

Abhinand, India
One of the big things I've learned is just how to relate to people, and the fact that no matter where you go the people are still people, they still like to be treated politely, and they still like to be treated with respect. They still like people to care for them. That's something that I've learned.

Stanislaw, Bulgaria
I didn't realize how much I'm going to miss my family and my friends. Now that I'm here, I really understood how much they mean to me. Also, I learned a lot about the life here. I learned that all that matters here is money, really.

John, Malaysia
Taking charge of things and getting things done on my own. I've also learned about my own responses to a culture. It takes quite a while to get to know how things work in the States or in any particular culture. You think you know it after three months or six months but it takes a lot longer to know deep cultural structures or issues.

Mia, Finland
Coming here was really a challenge but I overcame it. That was good for my self-growth, self-development, and confidence, and so forth. Now, I'm more confident in the taking more steps and risks. I'm more curious even now just to go and see the rest of the world like what what else is out there and what other kind of obstacles can I climb, and what can I do. I know next time I'm going to another country, I am going to go there with a little bit more open mind and just observe and realize that this might be a different situation and learn from it.

Xiaoxue, China
Before I came, I thought the way we doing things in China and the way we think is natural. But I have come to realize it's not natural. People have different views, they have different ways of thinking, and they have different ways of doing things. And that's amazing.

Patrik, Sweden
Of course, I have improved my English skills, both in writing and speaking. And it's always a life experience to travel to another country, even if you sit at your room and study most of the weekdays. And of course you're exposed in a school, and you can't hide from another culture. Whatever you do here, you're exposed to another culture. Even if you go to the grocery store, or if you want to go out for a party, or sit inside your room and study, even watching TV at your room, you're exposed to another culture. You get so many more inputs, influences, so many more new ideas. It opens your mind.

What have you learned here?

That people around the world have different sense of humor. Jokes don't translate that easily.

i've noticed the people around the world have their own ways of thinking, and what you might think is the right way, might not be the right way in some other culture. i've learned to think matters in many different lights. i've learned that the country and culture you're from, greatly affects your way of thinking, behaving and interacting with others.
