The media here tries to entertain not to educate. I think that's a
fundamental difference between here and other countries. Other countries
you look at the news and it gives you a picture of the world. Here
you look at the news, it tells you what is happening in a local community.
The news is all local news, it's not global news. In many times it's
not even important news, you know, important bills or important congress
legislation. They don't want that. Instead, they want to give time
to peace protests or they want to give time to somebody who did something
with their dog or something like that. That's why American people
don't know that much about other countries or other cultures, or other
ways of life. And I would lay a lot of the blame on the media because
the media is trying to entertain the people. |

In my eyes, the media is ridiculous. I'll say just one thing "Judge
Judy" totally ridiculous, it's pathetic if you ask me, totally pathetic.
I cannot believe people are crazy about this show. On the other hand,
if you ask the question why is media so ridiculous...because the media
serves all those people that they have to sell their products, and
they have to manipulate the masses. It's one of the tools what advertising
is all about, it's part of the economy. To make a profit, you should
sell more. To sell more, you have to engage customers to know about
your product, and that's how it works. |

When you watch the news, it's supposed to be serious and educate the
people of what is going on in the world. But first of all here, they
don't even have the world news here. Media is what educates a lot
of us and that's how we get to see the rest of the world and what
is going on in the world. And here you don't really get it unless
you go on the Internet or other sources. The news here is like an
action movie and it got all these commercial breaks. I love watching
news in Europe because you get a little bit of what's going on in
all the parts of the world and it's not really action-based. I feel
sometimes silly when somebody calls me from Europe and asks me "did
you hear what happened in Turkey" and so forth, and I'm like "no,
I didn't hear that." |
